Kane had spent nearly all of his time on board of the S.S. Corina locked up in his room, flipping the worn pages of dog-eared Greek mythology books, which he had found accidentally left by the room's previous inhabitant, nearly all of the four books about a woman named 'Pandora' who opened a box - or in the second books' case, a jar - and released all of the evil into the world. Kane didn't have anything better to do, which was the reason he'd give if asked why he was reading the fables anyways, but something about them conveyed meaning to him. She opened it out of curiosity; as if representing human life, the way people are unconsciously hurting themselves out of faux emotions and man-made material. It represented something else, too; unpredictability. Which was exactly what ran the poor lad was handed as he lifted the window shade with a hooked talon and peeked under it.
Sun. And lots of it.
Terror washed over the Murkrow 'morph - though he barely knew the reason why, he was really only scared because there was the slim margin of possibility that he still had a dreg of disease still left in him. Kane was not at all pleased with the idea of living the rest of his life as a fleshy puddle, and avoided sunlight as often as possible, most of his consciousness being when the moon wavered above the atmosphere and when nocturnal creatures ventured from hiding. But no matter what he could have done, the ship only gave passage to people during the day. The ship's horn roared; the waves of fear and adrenaline lapped higher as Kane glanced hopelessly at the sea of snow and sunlight.
Though unnecessary, two murky grey talons placed themselves momentarily around a small pocket tucked away on the inside of the cloak-like dressing the crow 'morph wore - the Cherish Ball's faded cherry sheen was easily hidden shape-wise and color-wise inside the cloak in it's minimized state, and had low chance of falling out anyways, but the fleeting touch felt necessary. Kane's first Pokémon rested inside. The Lunatone was achieved on the night of an eclipse - Kane's birthday, to be precise - almost like a gift. It had mysteriously plinked down from the glossy orb of a moon that peered at him from above (as the moon still hadn't disappeared completely yet), landing with another plink on the top of one of the spikes on his hat. He needn't have wondered or worried; it was obvious that the Lunatone was meant for him.
The ships' horn blared again; he'd have to get off, to go out there.
Kane shivered; sunlight seemed like the most terrible substance on the planet - though it wasn't even a substance. He was terrified of not even a substance. It couldn't hurt him if he ran fast enough, then, right? It wasn't real. It had no substance . . right? His stomach didn't buy it.
After the horn screeched for the third time, Kane, not wanting to be on the boat when it took off again, timidly tip-toed to the entrance of the boat. He'd have to run like there was a madman after him, he realized as he blinked at the sun's circular form while he remained in shadow. Pulling - or at least attempting to tug downwards - his hat down closer and shrinking as low as possible into his cloak, he sprinted off the boat and directly into the sunlight.
Kane had not ran that fast before; air streamed past him, his loose ponytail whipping in the speed of the winds, the sky around him congested with sunlight despite the wintry weather. The frantic, madman-like dash was bemusing to the eye; a guy with a strange hat, weaving through the crowd of people at rapid speeds, running away from basically nothing. Yes; it had to be at least fairly bemusing, and amusing was the thought that repeated itself through the 'morphs mind as he, now panting slightly, came closer and closer to the hot spring where the Hatchery existed. Kane already knew the Pokémon available at the Hawthorn's lab; none of them suited his desires.
Luckily, the Hatchery was not as far away as it seemed - and there was a nice shady tree right out front, where beneath the shade of it's limbs he took several deep breaths, his heart rate slowing. "Gah," The crow 'morph muttered under his breath with an exasperated sigh, glaring non-endearingly at the light that was failing to penetrate the leafy fronds. "I hate you," He mumbled at the light, and straightened up before rapping his fist somewhat quietly on the door's frame in three rapid movements. It was time to finish this the proper way.

[/b]" she whispered, petting the Kricketot hatchling and picking it up tentatively, taking it to her bedroom and laying it on the bed. The second her fingers brushed against the sheets and pillows, however, knocks infiltrated the silence of the small house. Frowning, she gave the little Pok?mon a kiss. " I'll be back, stay here, okay?" Gently setting it on a large pillow and pulling a sheet over it, she made her way out of her bedroom, closing the door carefully behind her. It took her a moment to navigate around the many desks; the place was, by no means, cluttered--she kept it in very good shape and very neatly ordered. There were just so many that sometimes she felt suffocated. Making a mental note to eventually rearrange the many desks, Mia Hawthorn's left hand gently closed around the doorknob. A little movement of her wrist and a tug with her arm muscles pulled the door open, revealing a young man. She furrowed her brows, sensing something odd about him. Something... not quite right, yes, but more than one thing. Something told her that the secrets this man held were rather obvious; and as she smiled, she shrugged it off. " Welcome to the Hatchery. Are you here to acquire a hatchling as your beginner?" she questioned, taking a step back to allow him to enter her house. The young woman's own Pok?mon were current in their pokeballs save for Telyn, her aipom; he was in the hatchery, inspecting the eggs carefully, making sure the incubators were working properly. [/tt][/color] "Yes, please," Kane replied, sparing a quick glance at the peculiar yellow iris Mira Hawthorn possessed. He wasn't one to judge, though; his eyes were just as odd, the pupil now retracting at the absence of light in the organized abode. Following the gesture allowing entrance portrayed by the young woman in front of him, Kane entered with a small grin firmly set upon his features. Kane spared a quick glance across the room; rows of desks occupied most of the surroundings, though decor dotted the walls here and there. A picture taken of multiple Pokémon in one shot, a colorful painting of an egg, Kane knew he was in the right place. "R-right, I'm Kane," Kane stuttered out of excitement; it was going to be his first proper Pokémon, he couldn't imagine who wouldn't be excited. "You must be Mira, correct?"[ o o c ]Dead muse is dead. Sorry for terrible shortness, that's as much that I could get for entering a room and saying a greeting. [/ul]

[/b]" she said with a faint nod, starting towards the door to the back room that contained the tables upon which incubators were placed, keeping safe the baby Pok?mon that had yet to hatch. " I'm not sure if you know how it goes or not, but I'll explain on the way, alright? Follow me, please, and we'll go right in." She stopped at the door, hand softly resting atop the knob. [/ul][/ul]

[/tt] Hearing the door closed softly behind him as his eyes ended their sweep across the interior of the building, Kane looked back as the end of a nod acted before his eye. Her arms may have been folded, but it wasn't disapproving, Kane noted. "I'm not sure if you know how it goes or not, but I'll explain on the way, alright? Follow me, please, and we'll go right in."Kane watched with muted anxiety as the lithe form of Mira Hawthorne traversed it's way to an oak door conveniently placed at the far end of the room, the palm of her hand waiting patiently on the brass knob. Matching the steps taken to traverse through the room. Kane admitted silently that he really actually didn't know how it went, so he was grateful for the kind gesture of help displayed. "Okay," Kane answered, a nod of the head displayed.[/ul]

[/b]" Inside there were rows upon rows of tables; the ones against the walls had incubators facing outward and the ones in the middles were slightly thicker with an incubator on either side, facing away from each other. Almost all the incubators held a Pok?mon egg; some didn't, as had already been claimed by someone, and would be filled when more eggs came to her. " Go around and pick any egg you like. If one's calling to you, it's usually a good idea to pick that one over others--but it's your choice. Whichever egg you pick, we'll take out back into the hotspring to hatch." she said, smiling. Her Aipom bounced over to her and she instantly gave it an attentative pat on the head, before whispering to it, " Go check up on the hatchling in my room, please." With a little nod, the Pok?mon disappeared through an entrance-exit that only they could use as it was far too small for humans; some Pok?mon had to use the human entrance, though, like her Gardevoir. " Take your time. Your starter Pok?mon is very important." she said, smiling sweetly at the male. [/ul][/ul]

[/tt] The door before Kane creaked open and a gust of warm air trickled it's way out; realizing a half-second too late that he would be the one choosing the egg, not the egg choosing him, Kane half-nodded again. But it was what was inside the room that captivated his attention, nulling anything else that may have held it before. Rows upon rows of tables- the room seemed bigger than the house itself. Upon each table at least one incubator, nearly all of them containing a multicolored egg that was being constantly warmed by the little machine. The incubaters that didn't have anything in them Kane presumed were the previous trainer, coordinator or breeder's choosings. "Go around and pick any egg you like. If one's calling to you, it's usually a good idea to pick that one over others--but it's your choice. Whichever egg you pick, we'll take out back into the hotspring to hatch."A feeling of dread similar to the one Kane recieved before dashing off the boat came; he'd have to go outside again, into the sunlight. Oh well, he'd just have to ignore it for a while . . "Thank you," Kane blinked gratefully, closing the door quietly behind him as he was told to. He began to pace down the isles of tables, an occasional talon-tip barely peeking out from the long black sleeves to gently touch the glass of an incubator. Eventually, Kane's loping pace slowed to a stop in front of one incubator; inside was an egg of purely black-and-cream color, black dominating most of the surface. The cream came in small dots, as if a paintbrush had been flicked; Kane's eyes were drawn to it, the powerful urge to clasp it in his claws immense. The entire fragile frame appeared as a small fraction of the stars dotting the night sky. "This one," Kane murmured under his breath, a claw tapping once on the fragile glass. [/ul]

[/b]" she said, smiling, walking over. She gently pressed a fingertip against a button on the machine; the inside light slowly faded off, the warm air that was kept inside it would be cooling drastically. But she carefully opened the top, holding it against her chest with both arms as carefully as one could. " Would you close that, please?" she asked, moving towards the door. " And there's a small tray in the bottom with two candies in it. They resemble rare candies, but they're called premium. Bring those, as well." she said; normally she'd have the other carry it, but she'd noticed the sharp points of his fingers; the egg was not so fragile as to be easily pierced but she was not sure of this completely, and she wanted to be safe. So instead she'd hand it to him outside. Making her way to the door she gently pressed against it with her knee; it was simply swinging, there was no lock--the outside had a small notch that the door stopped against, but that was all. The brightness of the sun took her by surprise but she was quite used to it, so she simply blinked against it, walking over towards the small, steaming section of the hotsprings. Most of it was rather large; this one, in particular, however, was barely the size of a bath tub, and not any deeper, either. She waited patiently for Kane to follow. Above the springs was spread a large tarp; it wasn't much, but it kept the sun from shining directly on the waters, warming them even more than they should be. Such hot temperatures would be too hot for the young hatchlings; the current heat was perfect for them. Once Kane had followed out [presumepresume], she smiled at him, and held out the egg. " You'll just sit there, in front of the small spring here," she said, nodding her head towards it, " and after a moment or two, it'll hatch~ I stay a bit back, so that it sees you first. It's very important for boding, especially in those few, first very precious moments of life." A gentle smile caressed her lips. Seeing new Pok?mon born into the world--especially to deserving trainers--really just made her life all the more worthwhile. [/ul][/ul]

"Alright, then."
Relief washed over Kane as Mira gently took the fragile egg, glad that he didn't have to hold it; he might have crushed or cracked the exterior, and he flexed his hand sadly under the confines of his cloak's sleeve as this thought raced through his mind. No, a 'morph was not the best thing to be.
"Would you close that, please?" Mira's fingertip reached over and pressed a button on the lower half of the incubator; the lights immediately flickered off, and Kane presumed that this also turned off the heat. "And there's a small tray in the bottom with two candies in it. They resemble rare candies, but they're called premium. Bring those, as well." She explained, and Kane nodded before locating and dragging out a small tin drawer below the incubator. He picked the two small red candies up between a talon, shutting the drawer as an eyebrow arched at their strange coloring.
Kane's spirits dropped as he first glanced outside, the sun shining brightly into his eyes. Luckily for him, though, there was a tarp - that wasn't too far away from the house, either. Mira steered herself towards it, and Kane immediately walked towards it at a fast pace, glancing at the at the pools of steaming liquid around him.
"You'll just sit there, in front of the small spring here," - here Kane gently took the dark egg from Mira's outstretched hand - "and after a moment or two, it'll hatch~ I stay a bit back, so that it sees you first. It's very important for boding, especially in those few, first very precious moments of life." Kane merely nodded in response, guessing that the smile she gave was supposed to be for reassurance; nervousness still raced through his veins, but mainly because of his curiosity of the egg's inhabitant. Squatting down slowly, Kane wasn't really sure what to do; not exactly sure of himself, Kane clasped the egg gently in his other palm { his first one still holding the premium candies } and slowly lowered it into the water. The response that the egg would have was still cloudy to him.

[/b]" She sat down against a tall rock patiently, smiling at the young man. Her question could have waited, but she wanted to make sure it was put out there, in case she forgot later, as well. The egg, once placed in the water, felt the gentle vibrations against it's shell. The heat surrounding it, the water enveloping it. Just because the trainer chose the egg didn't necessarily mean that the Pok?mon didn't choose the trainer; the calling many felt was not only their gut, but the will of the Pok?mon, drawing them to it. The shell slowly began to glow as the egg began finally "hatching"; taking shape, slowly, of the Pok?mon that it would become. The dark hues slowly began taking on a red color as it formed. A red shape with creamy-tan colors here and there. It took a minute for it to finally stop glowing and to finally reveal what it was. The egg hatched into a baby Corpphish!
The water-type was definitely enjoying the warmth of the hotsprings that it was currently in, swimming about happily for a moment before taking notice of it's trainer. ooc; And you can control it now. XDDD I'll do the received event after he gives it the candies~<3 [/ul][/ul]

"After it hatches, you'll feed the candies to the Pokémon to give it power, being they're still rather fragile and week when they hatch, even in comparison to the lab Pokémon and those found around the routes. Oh, and before it does, are you going to be a trainer? Or maybe a breeder, or coordinator? I have to know, it caries which starter kit I give to you."
Kane blinked as he realized that he was being spoken to; he had been mesmerized as the egg glowed in his palm, a small red lobster-like Pokémon taking it's place. This was not the outcome Kane had expected, but then again, what could he have expected? "I'm going to be a trainer.." His voice required some good hearing to be understood at that moment, the small lobster doing one small circle in the bath-shaped hot spring before inching back to his hand again. The Pokémon's rounded eyes traveled up to his face, a squeak emitting from a hidden mouth that now pushed itself off of the hard shell that coated the lobster. 'Phish?'
Blinking, Kane slowly unwrapped one of the four candies, the lobster crawling over his sleeve as the first fleshy pink candy was barely visible, plucking it up between his claws and pushing it up against it's mouth, discarding each wrapper on the ground as it reached for another candy that had been unwrapped. The Corphish seemed to be enjoying itself, and even if Kane wasn't very good with names he could at least give his 'starter' Pokémon an okay one. "Hermy," He murmured, barely audible at all. "You're going to be Hermy."

[/b]" She made her way back inside; through the thin door and back into the hatchery, as well as through the door that led from the main room into incubation room--although it was reverse as she was going back into her house. Sifting through some bags in a drawer she pulled out a Trainer Kit; when Kane followed her, she'd have it ready to give to him.
